Cognitive Radio Networks: Implementation, Analysis and Challenges

With advancing wireless communication technologies, hundreds of new applications are entering public utilization, and therefore the demand for radio frequency bands is on the rise. Since the radio frequency spectrum is an exhaustible resource requiring efficient utilization, cognitive radio technology presents a solution to the issue of spectrum efficiency, which hitherto could not be met through conventional approaches. This manuscript offers an overview of cognitive radio systems, which places special emphasis on their characteristics and operational mechanisms. The implementation and evaluation of simulation outcomes are covered while substantial challenges encountered in their design and deployment are addressed.
