Certified seed production and marketing are essential components of Ethiopia's agricultural landscape, pivotal for enhancing productivity and food security. This essay delves into the challenges and opportunities within this sector, highlighting the critical role of certified seeds in bolstering crop resilience, disease resistance and overall yield potential. Despite governmental prioritization and efforts to promote certified seeds, barriers such as limited access to improved varieties, inadequate infrastructure and gaps in farmer knowledge persist. Through an exploration of current practices, challenges and recommendations, this essay underscores the need for collaborative strategies involving stakeholders at various levels to foster sustainable growth and efficacy in certified seed production and marketing, ultimately contributing to Ethiopia's agricultural development and food security goals.
