Currently, one of the most common forms of gingivitis is chronic catarrhal gingivitis. With this form of the disease, gum damage occurs with a superficial inflammatory process. The main risk factors for the development of this disease are poor oral hygiene (the pathogenic effect of microorganisms), smoking, improper breathing, and heredity. Treatment of chronic catarrhal gingivitis consists of a set of measures aimed at eliminating development factors and signs of the disease. In most cases, this is a complex treatment, including professional oral hygiene and drug therapy. Drug therapy consists in treating the mouth with antiseptic solutions and applications of antibacterial and anti-inflammatory drugs. Today, one of the main disadvantages of the often used synthetic antibacterial and anti-inflammatory drugs is the presence of a number of rather serious side effects, as well as the stable resistance of microorganisms to them. As a result of this, it is extremely urgent today to introduce into the dental practice new herbal medicines for the treatment of infectious diseases of the mouth, which combine an antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory effect, provided that microorganism strains are not resistant to them. One of such new herbal remedies is the dental gel “Dentaxant”, obtained on the basis of natural xanton - α-mangosteen (1,3,6-trihydroxy-7-methoxy-2,8-bis (3-methyl2-butenyl) -9? -xanten-9- one), which has antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory effects (EAEU N RU D-RU.AG81. V.01272). A comparative study showed that in the treatment of chronic generalized catarrhal gingivitis, the application of the Dentaxant drug significantly reduced all selected objective index indices. Subjective indicators also show reliable, positive dynamics. The state of periodontal tissues with the use of “Dentaxant” significantly improves.
