The development of moodle-based educational website for teaching writing hortatory exposition to senior high school students

Abstract

The use of information and communication technologies (ICT) to create e-learning has now become permeating in society. There is now an expectation that teachers are able to use e-learning to support teaching and learning in their classrooms. The study aimed at providing a model of developing and applying e-learning through Moodle-based educational website. The study used Research and Development (R&D) method developed by Borg and Gall (1983: 792) in which there are six stages, such as: need analysis, product design, preliminary test, product revision, field test, and conclusion. The result of the application process showed that the use of the website was effective to improve the students‟ competency to write hortatory exposition in terms of content, organization, vocabulary, language use, and mechanics and to increase their motivation in using e-learning as the alternative media for learning.
